We see a powerful example of the power of unity in Genesis Chapter 11. The people of the Babylonian region came together to build a city and a tower that reaches to the heavens, “So that we can make a name for ourselves”.
God, understanding the concept of unity said; “If, as one people, speaking the same language, they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them”.
They had unity of action but their motivation was not inspired of God, but it was to make “a name for themselves”. It was for their own self identity, preservation and acknowledgment. Therefore God could not allow it to be successful as they would have become more self reliant and even more separated from Him.
Our mindset should not be to develop unity so revival or transformation will come, as if we accomplished it or brought it to make a name for ourselves. The Kingdom is about to be released in a greater manifestation of God’s glory. This will be done by the timing and the will of God. The Spirit of God is telling us to come together in unity so we can have a greater effect in our prayers, but also that by developing this true unity it will cause us to become mature and be able to handle the glory and power that is coming in a proper manner. So, our unity should come out of our obedience to the lordship of Jesus in our lives.
This whole thing starts with God and ends with God. No one will be able to make a name for themselves by thinking they will be the key to revival or it is going to come through their ministry.
God will probably start it in unexpected places through unexpected people, such as children in schools, so no one will take the glory for it.
Jesus prayed in John 17 that we would be one as Jesus and the Father are one. The Godhead is one. The Holy Spirit does not speak on His own but only what Jesus or the Father speaks. John 13:4 He will bring glory to Jesus. The Father does not lord it over Jesus, and Jesus is not jealous of the Father etc. They are one in every way possible. In marriage the two are to become one. That happens in a greater degree when Jesus is Lord of their lives and each partner plays their role properly because of their love for Jesus and each other.
If we are not one with each other, then we are not one with Him. In Ephesians 4:9-16 it states that Jesus gave the five-fold ministry to the church “to prepare God’s people for service, so that the Body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
1 Peter 1:9 states; “For you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls”. The whole purpose of our faith is to become like Jesus or to purify our hearts. This will change the wrong selfish motivations and attitudes of our hearts to Kingdom motivations and attitudes. This is automatically accomplished through sacrificial love for Jesus and others. That will result in unity and maturity. If we still have selfish motivations or want to make a name for ourselves, then we are still not ready for what we want concerning revival and the power of God
Moses at one time killed an Egyptian for beating a fellow Hebrew. Then the Lord humbled him in the wilderness for 40 years before He called him to be a conduit for the power of God.
Philippians 2:3-4 says; “Do nothing out of selfish ambitions or vain conceit but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also the interest of others.
